स्पिनर प्रवीण ताम्बे कैरिबियन प्रीमियर लीग (सीपीएल) में खेलने वाले पहले भारतीय क्रिकेटर बन गए हैं। 48 साल के ताम्बे इस लीग में त्रिनिबागो नाइट राइडर्स (टीकेआर) से सेंट लूसिया जाउसक्स के खिलाफ खेल रहे हैं। उन्हें सुनील नरेन के स्थान पर टीम मे चुना गया है। टीम के कप्तान केरन पोलार्ड ने नरेन को बाहर बैठाने को कोई कारण नहीं बताया है। जुलाई में ताम्बे ने फ्रेंचाइजी के साथ करार किया था और इसी के साथ वह सीपीएल से जुड़ने वाले पहले भारतीय खिलाड़ी बन गए थे।
इस टीम का मालिकाना हक शाहरुख खान के पास है जो आईपीएल टीम कोलकाता नाइट राइडर्स के भी सह-मालिक हैं।
कोलकाता के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी (सीईओ) वैंकी मैसूर ने कहा, "मैं ताम्बे के बारे में नहीं जानता लेकिन वह टीकेआर की तरफ से पदार्पण कर रहे हैं इससे मैं काफी उत्साहित हूं। क्या प्रेरणादायी कहानी है।"

कोलकाता ने आईपीएल-13 के लिए ताम्बे को पिछले साल दिसंबर में अपने साथ जोड़ा था। इसी के साथ नीलामी में खरीदे जाने वाले सबसे उम्रदराज खिलाड़ी बन गए थे। लेकिन यूएई में होने वाली टी-10 लीग में हिस्सा लेने के कारण आईपीएल गवनिर्ंग काउंसिल ने उन्हें अयोग्य घोषित कर दिया था।

ताम्बे ने 2013 में 41 साल की उम्र में आईपीएल पदार्पण किया था। उन्होंने अभी तक आईपीएल में 33 मैच खेले हैं और 28 विकेट लिए हैं।.
